For schools
Welcome to Silverton, City of Speed · A one-page data, safety and curriculum sheet · Version 1.0 · 27 October 2026
In short: a free story app for children aged 4 to 7, used with an adult nearby. No accounts, no names, no adverts, no in-app purchases, no chat, no tracking and no cookies. Nothing a child does is sent to us.
What it is
An interactive version of the picture book Ava Saves Up! by Nathan Waldron, illustrated by Ashley Mountford, with a map of Silverton and short games about saving, choosing and waiting. All money in the games is pretend tokens. The app never asks what a family has or can afford.
Data protection
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| Does the app collect personal data? | No. There is no sign-in and nothing is uploaded. Progress, settings, a feelings check-in and any voice recordings stay in the browser on the device used. |
| Who hosts it? | Netlify, Inc. (United States). Like any web host it receives technical details such as IP address and browser type to deliver the pages. We do not use these to identify anyone. |
| Third parties loaded in the browser? | None. Fonts, pictures, sounds and code all come from the same address. |
| Microphone? | Only if an adult passes the grown-ups check (a times-table question) and presses Record. Recordings stay on the device. |
| Shared devices | Turn on "Shared device mode" in Grown-ups Corner. It switches off the feelings check-in and voice recording, and starts progress fresh in each new browser session. Otherwise use "Clear progress on this device" and "Delete voice recordings" between pupils. |
| Controller and contacts | Pocket Money Adventures CIC, Company No. 16994988, ICO registration ZC124930. Data protection: dpo@pocketmoneyadventures.co.uk. Safeguarding: support@pocketmoneyadventures.co.uk. |
Full details are in the privacy notice. Your school's own data protection officer decides whether a school DPIA is needed. We can supply ours on request.
Safety
- No chat, messaging, profiles or shared content between users.
- No adverts and nothing to buy inside the app. Grown-ups Corner has one link to the book's own website, behind the grown-ups check. New stories and places open for everyone as they are released.
- No timers, no loot boxes and no streaks a child can lose. Town Hall shows how many days a child has visited, with no penalty for missing a day.
- Web filtering: allow silverton.pocketmoneyadventures.co.uk and welcome-to-silverton.netlify.app (the same app on its host's address). The app loads nothing from anywhere else.
- Some voices and the Play Park item pictures were made with AI tools and checked by us. Nothing in the app generates content live.
Accessibility
An "Easier to use" button changes text size, letter style, colour strength, motion and sound. Read by myself shows the real book with big words and read-aloud. See the accessibility statement, including what does not work well yet.
Where it can fit in your teaching
These are links a teacher may find useful. The app is not an assessed scheme of work and does not claim to cover any programme of study by itself.
- EYFS: waiting, taking turns and choosing; working towards a simple goal (the saving plan and the coin jars).
- KS1 maths: counting, adding and taking away small numbers with pretend tokens (Count the coins, The Silverton Shop: spent plus left). Coin spotter uses pictures of real UK coins, 1p to £2, for recognising coins (Year 1 maths: recognise and know the value of coins). No game asks a child to pay, and nothing can be bought.
- KS1 PSHE and citizenship: where money comes from, spending and saving, needs and wants, waiting before choosing.
- Primary health education, Wellbeing online (RSHE statutory guidance, 2025): a tap or a click can still spend real money (The Tap Detective, Choice cards). The guidance lists video game monetisation, scams and other financial harms for the end of primary; the app only starts that conversation.
- Financial Education Planning Framework 3–11 (Young Enterprise), ages 3–5 and 5–7: the app touches its four themes: How to manage money; Becoming a critical consumer; Managing risks and emotions associated with money; Understanding the important role money plays in our lives. This is a pointer for planning, not a mapping we have had checked.
The award plaques in Silverton Museum belong to the Pocket Money Adventures school resources named on each plaque. The app itself was not part of either assessment.
